The People Speak have been bringing people together to talk about the issues that matter to them for 25 years around the Talkaoke table. They have appeared at festivals, conferences, museums, high streets, and even outside a COVID testing centre! Conversations around the Talkaoke table have helped inform cultural and placemaking strategies, including for youth groups, architects, planners and arts centres.
In 2021 The People Speak CIC was launched in order to deliver an expanding offer of community projects including two skills development strands: Talkaoke Skills Lab – intercultural dialogue, collaboration and skills exchange programme, funded by the British Council; and The People Work – training and skills development for local residents, funded by Foundation for Future London.
To build a business and investment case going forward, The People Speak are looking to learn how they can best describe their unique approach and evidence impact in a way that goes beyond anecdotal quotes and case studies. To this end, Network is supporting a collaboration with QMUL’s Student Knowledge Exchange Through Community Hubs (SKETCH) programme.
Led by Dr Patrick McGurk, SKETCH is a simulated student-led professional services organisation that provides community support by delivering workshops, training, advisory clinics, consultancy-style projects and investment services to local businesses, individuals and community partners.
