POSTPONED Festival Economies: Sustaining Creative Communities of Practice

Due to restrictions on international travel in response to the spread of corona virus, we are postponing this conference so that our international collaborators and contributors can join us at a later date on 26 September 2020.

How can the creative practice involved in festivals be better sustained?

Network is delighted to bring together a range of dynamic voices from across festival sectors to address this question and others arising from a broad interest in the creative and economic ecosystems that produce the creative economies of festivals.

The conference starting point is the recent mapping project of the Durga Puja festival in West Bengal, undertaken by Network in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, on behalf of the British Council, India, and in partnership with the Department of Tourism of the Government of West Bengal.

Panel discussions and presentations will consider the impacts of festivals, community building, and social inclusion, setting the scene with colourful case studies and bringing international perspectives. There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions and network directly with panellists and other delegates.
